25 Skills Every Man Should Know

Found this here, originally from Popular Mechanics. Here’s how I measure up:

  1. Patch a radiator hose – yup
  2. Protect your computer – yup
  3. Rescue a boater who has capsized – nope, but I can swim real good!
  4. Frame a wall – yup, steel and wood
  5. Retouch digital photos – yup
  6. Back up a trailer – yup, cept those small ones that you can’t see
  7. Build a campfire – yup
  8. Fix a dead outlet – totally
  9. Navigate with a map and compass – GPS?
  10. Use a torque wrench – yup
  11. Sharpen a knife – yup
  12. Perform CPR – I think so
  13. Filet a fish – no way!
  14. Maneuver a car out of a skid – maybe
  15. Get a car unstuck – yup
  16. Back up data – yup
  17. Paint a room -yup
  18. Mix concrete – yup
  19. Clean a bolt-action rifle – not even close
  20. Change oil and filter – totally
  21. Hook up an HDTV – yup
  22. Bleed brakes – yup, it takes two
  23. Paddle a canoe – yup
  24. Fix a bike flat – yup
  25. Extend your wireless network – yup

21 out of 25 ain’t bad, what about you?

    I can do most of these but I don’t even know what the following two are (never mind know how to do them)

    Frame a wall
    Bleed brakes

    Although I’ll tell ya the key to…

    Rescue a boater who has capsized

    …Is to keep the boat down river from both of you. If your boat ends up between you two then you’ll bump it and it can run into their head.

    4. Frame a wall – Psshh…no.
    5. Retouch digital photos – Umm…kinda, sure.
    6. Back up a trailer – yeah (didn’t say without hitting something on occasion)
    7. Build a campfire – heck yeah.
    8. Fix a dead outlet – maybe? i’ll say yes.
    9. Navigate with a map and compass – I was a boy scout…yeah.

    12. Perform CPR – Yes…I was a lifeguard
    13. Filet a fish – Nope
    14. Maneuver a car out of a skid – Done it before
    15. Get a car unstuck – Done that too, with help.
    16. Back up data – I don’t, I can, I should.
    17. Paint a room -Well? Yeah, I can do that.
    18. Mix concrete – Don’t they have machines for that? i could follow directions. OK – no.
    19. Clean a bolt-action rifle – no
    20. Change oil and filter – Someone showed me how in high school. no.
    21. Hook up an HDTV – Haven’t, but I’m sure I could.
    22. Bleed brakes – didn’t know they had veins
    23. Paddle a canoe – Oh yeah…had my canoing merit badge
    24. Fix a bike flat – Shoot I need to do that. So I’ll learn soon. So in advance, yes.
    25. Extend your wireless network – sure

    A shaky 18 of 25.
