Better than what?

What does “better than blank” mean? Good Question.

Basically the idea came from a message I heard by Louie Giglio from a Passion DVD. He was teaching about how often Christians re-dedicate their lives, make promises to never do ______ again, or telling God that “this is the last time”. Then he asks the crowd something like, “How many people in here are having victory in their lives and experiencing a deep, meaningful relationship with God” – and very few raise their hands.

Louie then goes on to teach that living the Christian life is not hard, or difficult – it’s impossible. That is why we need to rely on him for our strength, for the power to live the life he has called us to. Louie’s premise on how to experience all that God has for us is the idea that you must first experience Jesus, his grace, the mercy offered to us.

Then the answer is profound. The temptations of this world are nothing compared to what God offers us. The idea is that “Jesus is better than ________” – you insert the temptation: money, fame, porn, pride, etc. It’s like once you have tasted a juicy In-n-Out Double Double, there is no going back – nothing compares to those two juicy burgers coated with cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato – hold the onion & sauce, ah… perfect.

It’s a message that reverberates in my mind and heart – something I always remember, so there you have it.
