the life of a renaissance pastor
I’ve got a life motto that’s just an unwritten rule: Always Get Better. Maybe it’s a sickness. I’m the guy who always sees room for improvement, always - it’s just who I am. So, I tend to be (a) very hard on myself, and (b) very hard on those around me. I try and balance [...]
What, you thought worship guys cornered the market on confessional videos? I’m pretty wiped out on this video, but you may learn more about what I do on a typical weekend.
This past weekend it was my turn to teach again. I do this oh, about six times a year. The topic this time? “What Happens The Minute After I Die?”. It’s part of LifeChurch.tv’s series entitled “If I Die Before I Wake“. So I got to talk about death - yay…
As I was preparing for [...]
Just wanted to give a huge shout out to my brother, James, for coming all the way out from Virginia to lead worship at LifeChurch last weekend. He did a phenominal job, our people really responded well and God was glorified huge! His set was: Marvelous Light, There is Nothing Like, Everlasting God, and U2’s [...]
(blogged on 5.26.08)
So I am sitting on jet plane bound bound for Hawaii, planning on spending the next 7 days on board the USS Germantown with my buddy Chris Stout who is returning from a 7 month deployment. I think this is the first time I’ve been alone in a very long time. I’m either [...]
I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but the Bible talks a lot about honoring one another (Romans 12:10). I think we often overlook these verses, for various reasons. We desire honor above others, we’re afraid of others getting credit, we’re selfish, whatever. I’m out of town all week so I thought I’d [...]
I saw a cool post here, which I found here. So I thought I might try it out here.
I don’t understand…
why people can’t get along. countries, churches, colors, classes, families, marriages, co-workers, etc.
what makes Pinkberry so good!
how God puts up with (all our) hypocracy, manipulation, pride, misrepresentation, flat out lying, in the church today.
what happens [...]
So this weekend I played drums! First time in at least 6 months. It was awesome - I was a little worried because in the past few months we’ve introduced the click to almost all our songs, and I had never played along with a click, ever. But I think I did alright; out of [...]
This was a busy weekend for me. Jen was out of town so I had both kiddos, which makes being at church for 10-12 hours on a weekend interesting. Luckily I had some help this weekend with family hanging out with them - nice!
Last weekend I led worship with a killer acoustic band. 6 strings, [...]
Part 1: Graphics
Here is a graphic I created for our Youth Sunday, for teaching and announcements:
It’s not too amazing, but it looked better than nothing - gave it some personality.
Our Junior High Pastor did a little game using text messaging abbreviations, so I created another graphic:
This was better than just text on the screen. Obviously [...]
My name is Alex McLean and I am currently the executive pastor at LifeChurch in the Temecula Valley of Southern California. IÕve been a youth pastor and worship leader, as well as a media/communications pastor so I am into all kinds of things creative. At the core, I am just a guy who is trying to live right, and live life - not let it happen. I try and stay open & teachable, humble if I can say that. ThatÕs really one of the reasons I blog, is to share my experiences in life and learn from others. God has blessed me with more than I deserve and IÕm so thankful for that. A beautiful wife and two incredible children. More friends and family than you can shake a stick at and just an amazing life that I am allowed to enjoy and or struggle with every day.
