the life of a renaissance pastor
So I was talking with a friend of mine this morning for a second about something that I’m preparing for, and he said something like ‘what are you doing to prepare’, and I was like, oh I’m coming up with a plan. He typed back one word: pray. Uhhh, yeah… that stung.
I think those who [...]
QuietTime.tv looks like a cool new use for web 2.0 & video. I know that I don’t get enough “quiet time” and when I’m in community with others, there’s cool things that come up that I would have never thought of. So I am excited about this. Go check it out today and here’s a [...]
Lots of us are struggling with this issue. There’s the “Fat Ragamuffintop Challenge“, there’s the weightwatchers, the nutrasystems, the “No More Fat Arse People in Ministry Weight Loss Challenge“, etc. There’s me - I’m trying to get back into shape, although my life has been crazy for the past month or so. I just thought [...]

Church on the USS Germantown:
Well it’s Sunday morning, and for the first time in at least a year, I slept in. I wanted to go to the “Protestant Service” here on the ship, but it didn’t happen. Right now I am used to being busy making sure church is going off [...]
I got this article via email this morning. I used it as my personal devotion time. It springs from Jeremiah 9:23-24. I’m not sure if I’m breaking some kind of copyright infringement laws or what not, but I thought this was powerful stuff and worthy of your time, especially if you are a preaching/teaching pastor. [...]
I totally stole that title from the latest LifeChurch.tv teaching series. I’ve been watching each week - and it’s been so good; a little hard to hear, but good. Our own church is in a series called “Life Gets Fit” and we’ve spent a couple weeks on being financially fit (which we all need to [...]
Well, it’s been a while since I’ve take the time to post a Daily Devotion. Today I had extra time to spend reading and hearing the word of God - it was good. I read Psalms 146-150 - here are some of the verses that really spoke to me:
He gives justice to the oppressed and [...]
I came home from vacation tonight for rehearsal (I had to, it was important for me to show the team how seriously I take this time). Anyway so I get home and start getting ready. We had a great rehearsal, good talk, good music, good friends, and our tech team showed up and setup all [...]
Today I begin the journey through Matthew 6. Jesus continues teaching his disciples from the “Sermon on the Mount”. I’ve heard before that this is crucial teaching that he was sharing with his closest disciples. Not that any of his other teaching is less important, just that this was “face time” with the Song of [...]
Wrapping up Matthew 5 today - it’s taken longer than I thought, but I’m getting back on track here with doing these on the blog. I wanted to also share with you 2 sites that I am excited about. The first is eBible, I stumbled upon this and I really like the web 2.0ness [...]
My name is Alex McLean and I am currently the executive pastor at LifeChurch in the Temecula Valley of Southern California. I have been a youth pastor and worship leader, as well as a media / communications pastor so I am into all kinds of things creative.
At the core, I am just a guy who is trying to live in community, and live life - not let it happen. I try and stay real and teachable, humble if I can say that. That is really one of the reasons I blog, is to share my experiences in life and learn from others.
God has blessed me with more than I deserve and I am so thankful for that. A beautiful wife and two incredible children. More friends and family than you can shake a stick at and just an amazing life that I am allowed to enjoy and or struggle with every day.
