the life of a renaissance pastor
When I was a young teen, my parents dragged me all over California for the Scottish Highland Games. My sisters danced & I played a marching snare. I’m not gonna lie - I loathed it. It was hot, very hot, and I was not into wearing a kilt. It wasn’t much of a chick magnet. [...]
2 words: Bagpipes & Drums. Where would we be without ‘em. For me, when I hear them, especially live, I get chills. I’ve heard stories, not sure if they’re true or not, that in the “olden times” they used to send the pipe bands out in front of the other troops and as they began [...]
The Flower of Scotland, from Wikipedia:
Flower of Scotland (Scottish Gaelic: Flùr na h-Alba) is an unofficial national anthem of Scotland, a role for which it competes against the older Scotland the Brave. In common with England among the Home Nations, Scotland has no official national anthem. Flower of Scotland was written by Roy Williamson of [...]
This weekend, Miles, Macy & I went along with my parents to the San Diego Scottish Highland Games, in Vista. This was our second trip in the past few years. Let me just say that my parents used to drag us all over California to these things when my sisters danced and I played marching [...]
I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, but the Bible talks a lot about honoring one another (Romans 12:10). I think we often overlook these verses, for various reasons. We desire honor above others, we’re afraid of others getting credit, we’re selfish, whatever. I’m out of town all week so I thought I’d [...]
What is the best thing that can happen to a guy who loves Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn, George Harrison, Roy Orbison & Bob Dylan? How about if they all start a band together? That’s exactly what happened in 1988, and in about 1991 I found out about the Traveling Wilburys. Probably some of the best [...]
Um, where was I? I was listening to Mark & Brian this morning and they had Marc Cohn on, and I heard something like, “After I got shot I began to write again”. I was like “huh?”. So anyway I googled it this evening and sure enough, in 2005 while on tour some crazy meth-head [...]
Since my weekend will be filled with soccer games and church, I thought I’d better get this up now. This Sunday is Jen & I’s 7 year anniversary. I can hardly believe it’s been that long! Here’s a picture from us dating in 1994, yup, that would be 13 years ago!
And now…
Yup, we’ve grown to [...]
How many of you knew that July 4th is Nathan’s Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island, New York. Joey Chestnut, from California, defeated the champ, Kobayashi (who held the record at 53.75 dogs), by eating 66 hot dogs (buns included) in only 12 minutes. You can imagine the mess. But can you believe [...]
It’s a love/hate relationship that I have with my TV. When Lost, The Office, and 24 are on, life is good - when they’re not I don’t even feel like turning it on. But one good thing about having our favorite shows off is that we have to look for other things to watch. [...]
My name is Alex McLean and I am currently the executive pastor at LifeChurch in the Temecula Valley of Southern California. Ive been a youth pastor and worship leader, as well as a media/communications pastor so I am into all kinds of things creative. At the core, I am just a guy who is trying to live right, and live life - not let it happen. I try and stay open & teachable, humble if I can say that. Thats really one of the reasons I blog, is to share my experiences in life and learn from others. God has blessed me with more than I deserve and Im so thankful for that. A beautiful wife and two incredible children. More friends and family than you can shake a stick at and just an amazing life that I am allowed to enjoy and or struggle with every day.
