So, we’ve gone ‘old school’ over this past year and launched a ‘Deacon Team’ (note: not a Deacon Board). My role as executive pastor has blessed me with oversight of this team, and I’m NOT being sarcastic. Theses guys are amazing servants, faithful, and hard working. I’ve had two meetings so far, and we’re kind [...]

Developing Leaders on Purpose

In: help, leadership, thoughts

I met with a friend the other day who has chosen to invest in my life - I’m grateful for people like that. We talked a lot about leadership and the church, but the main focus of our conversation focused around developing people, with the intention of forming leaders; leaders who would lead others. I [...]

Thank You Jenni & Peter!

In: blogging, books, friends, leadership

It’s funny how blessings come into your life in the most interesting ways. Last week I found out that I was the winner of a little contest over at Jenni Catron’s blog. I am now the owner of ‘Unleashing the Power of Rubber Bands‘ by Nancy Ortberg. I didn’t even realize it but the forward [...]

What Kind of Leader Are You?

In: leadership

Craig Groeschel wrote a great little post over at his blog, check it out:
The four styles I most often observe include:

Relational leaders: These leaders motivate others through personal connections.
Visionary leaders: These leaders move people by painting a picture of what “could be.”
Administrative leaders: These leaders move the ball forward by organizing groups of people with [...]

Continued from part 1…
Again, these are all pretty much direct quotes:
The most defining factor for success is culture. The culture defines everything that happens.
Culture = this is how we do things here.

I’m at FUEL, a leadership conference put on by Generations Church, hosted at LifeChurch (my church). Dr. Chand is speaking about leadership and the church and the future. This is great stuff - I sat through his talks a year or two ago and it changed my life, so I wanted to make sure I [...]

We’ve been going through catalyst as a staff over the past few weeks. A great tool to talk about difficult issues in leadership. This week we went through an article called “The Diamond Life” by Ken Myers. Wow. Ken compares the leadership journey to a baseball diamond (please don’t think Warrenback). Here’s some of the [...]

Leadership, the Singing Dog…

In: funnies, leadership

I just found this quote, and yes, it’s by Dr. Sam Chand (who, by the way will be speaking at FUEL at LifeChurch this Saturday).
I have a dog at home, that dog will never sing. It’s a good dog, I love my dog, I spend money on my dog, but that dog will never sing. [...]

Leadership Podcast

In: blogging, leadership

I read Perry Noble’s blog.
So should you.
Last week he pointed me in the direction of Andy Stanley’s new Leadership Podcast.
I subscribed to it.
So should you.
Here’s a little sample…
Everyone of us is emotionally in love with the way we do ministry. It may not work, but we love it!
’nuff said.

About this blog

My name is Alex McLean and I am currently the executive pastor at LifeChurch in the Temecula Valley of Southern California. I have been a youth pastor and worship leader, as well as a media / communications pastor so I am into all kinds of things creative.

At the core, I am just a guy who is trying to live in community, and live life - not let it happen. I try and stay real and teachable, humble if I can say that. That is really one of the reasons I blog, is to share my experiences in life and learn from others.

God has blessed me with more than I deserve and I am so thankful for that. A beautiful wife and two incredible children. More friends and family than you can shake a stick at and just an amazing life that I am allowed to enjoy and or struggle with every day.
