Blog Bottleneck

In: blogging, church, thoughts

Sorry about not posting much lately. It’s not from a lack of thoughts, happening, and ideas. It’s just that life has bottlenecked my ability to blog. That picture is pretty much how I’m feeling right now - there’s a lot happening and a lot to blog about, but my capacity is low right now… Here’s [...]

Jim & Melissa are a very cool couple at our church that I’ve had the privilege of getting to know over the past year or so. I wanted to include their story in this Generosity series because, well you’ll see when you read their story. I had a chance to do a little interview with [...]

So, we’ve gone ‘old school’ over this past year and launched a ‘Deacon Team’ (note: not a Deacon Board). My role as executive pastor has blessed me with oversight of this team, and I’m NOT being sarcastic. Theses guys are amazing servants, faithful, and hard working. I’ve had two meetings so far, and we’re kind [...]

This is a new blog series that I’m going to work through. Let me just begin by sharing that over the past year my life as I’ve connected with more an more people outside my little ‘Temecula Circle’ - I’ve become more aware, or more attracted to generosity. I love reading stories about people who [...]

This election was pretty interesting, especially in the use of social media/web 2.0. I think one of the coolest things about what has happened over the past few years is the web has brought us closer to the action - inviting us to participate more. Some would argue that social media has caused us to [...]

A New Day

In: events, thoughts

I don’t have a lot of time to blog right now, but I can’t let this day go by without a quick post. We actually got in front of a TV last night to witness this historical election. Amazing speeches by both McCain and Obama. Lot’s of talk of working together to bring about the [...]

Who I Should Vote for.

In: blogging, events, thoughts

We played this game at the blog a couple weeks ago with some lively discussion. Today Vince turned me onto this little survey, and according to my answers I should vote for these candidates (in this order):

Ralph Nader (seriously does this guy even have a chance?)

Cynthia McKinney (who is she?)
Barack Obama (he does have the [...]

Sometimes clarity hits me like eating the most choice steak - I love steak (sorry vegans).
It’s like when you’re tuning a guitar and you get that string to the exact frequency and the whole guitar responds with warmth.
It’s like when a teacher reveals something profound in a way that makes complete sense to you.
It’s like [...]

Apple Supports No on Prop 8

In: news, thoughts

While not a laughing matter, I thought about titling this post “Apple is Gay!”, or “Burn the Macbooks!”. But seriously, this from Apple today:
Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to [...]

This is just an odd post of some thoughts I was having the other day…
When I was in Junior High & High School God placed me in a youth group that would prove to shape my life for where I am today. Rick Countryman was my youth pastor and he and his staff invested deeply [...]

About this blog

My name is Alex McLean and I am currently the executive pastor at LifeChurch in the Temecula Valley of Southern California. I have been a youth pastor and worship leader, as well as a media / communications pastor so I am into all kinds of things creative.

At the core, I am just a guy who is trying to live in community, and live life - not let it happen. I try and stay real and teachable, humble if I can say that. That is really one of the reasons I blog, is to share my experiences in life and learn from others.

God has blessed me with more than I deserve and I am so thankful for that. A beautiful wife and two incredible children. More friends and family than you can shake a stick at and just an amazing life that I am allowed to enjoy and or struggle with every day.
